What we treat in Camden
We treat rats, mice and bed bugs across Camden NW1: around Camden Market and Camden Lock, along the Regent's Canal, in the Victorian terraces and council estates of Camden Town, and out to Kentish Town, Euston and the edge of Regent's Park. Camden Council still runs a paid pest service, so this page sets its charges beside how a private visit works.

Local knowledge
Pests and properties in Camden
Camden Town was laid out for housing from 1791, and many of its terraces are now flats or shared houses, alongside large council estates. Camden began its third borough-wide additional licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation on 8 December 2025, a sign of how much shared housing there is. Shared houses mean shared floor voids for mice and a steady flow of tenants, luggage and second-hand furniture for bed bugs. Rats have plenty to work with: weekend crowds at the markets, food stalls and takeaways, the towpath of the Regent's Canal, and the railway lines running into Euston and through Kentish Town, which offer food and long stretches of cover.
What to expect from every visit

What Camden Council charges for pest control in 2026
Unlike Westminster next door, Camden still sells treatment to private households. These are the charges on its pest page as we read them in October 2026; earlier copies showed lower figures, so treat each as a starting price.
- Rats: Camden Council charges private residents and landlords from £177.60 for up to two visits.
- Mice: Camden charges from £151.38 for a one to three bedroom home, £173.07 for four bedrooms and £204.90 for five, again up to two visits.
- Bed bugs: Camden charges from £283.52 for one bedroom and a lounge, plus £119.83 for each extra bedroom.
- If an officer calls about rats or mice and no treatment is needed, Camden Council charges a £20 fee.
Council tenants pay nothing for rats, mice, bed bugs, cockroaches or fleas, so if Camden is your landlord, ring 020 7974 4444. For everyone else the difference is speed and scope: the council aims to book within three days and its programmes are treatment only, while we are often there the same day and look for the way in during the survey.
Full details are on Camden Council's pest control page, and our guide to council pest control in London in 2026 compares it with the other boroughs.
Why Camden gets rats, mice and bed bugs
Camden logged 9,133 council rat reports between 2023 and mid-2025, roughly ten a day and the highest of any London borough that answered the freedom of information requests behind the figures. Thirteen boroughs gave no data, so the ranking is incomplete.
The causes are easy to see on a walk from the Lock to Kentish Town. Market stalls and takeaways produce food waste every day, the canal banks and railway lines let rats travel unseen, and old drains under the terraces give them a way into gardens and basements.
Mice and bed bugs follow the housing. In flats and shared houses, mice move through the voids between homes, while bed bugs ride in on luggage, second-hand beds and sofas, and the belongings of each new tenant.

Getting pest control in Camden
We cover Camden Town and the rest of NW1, including Chalk Farm, Kentish Town, Euston and the streets by Regent's Park. Each Camden job begins with a free inspection survey; for rats that means the garden, walls and drain runs as well as the inside. You then get a fixed written quote, and bait or other products are applied to label.
Same-day visits are often possible in NW1, between 8am and 7pm from Monday to Saturday; Sunday visits are limited to emergency calls. Technicians hold the RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management and are DBS checked, and every treatment carries a written six-month guarantee, subject to the site survey.

Camden FAQ
Pest control in Camden: common questions
Is Camden Council cheaper than a private firm for rats?+
For council tenants, yes, because Camden treats them free. Private residents and landlords pay Camden Council from £177.60 for up to two visits, plus a £20 fee if the officer finds nothing to treat. We give a fixed written quote after a free inspection survey, so you can compare the two on price, speed and proofing.
I am a Camden council tenant with bed bugs. Do I have to pay?+
No. Camden Council treats its own tenants free for bed bugs, as well as for rats, mice, cockroaches and fleas. Ring the council on 020 7974 4444 to book. If you rent privately or own your home, you pay the council's charge or use a private firm instead.
Rats are getting into my garden from the canal side. What can be done?+
Rats can travel along the canal banks and railway lines, then look for a gap into gardens and drains. We survey the garden, walls and drain runs to find the way in, place tamper-resistant bait stations along the route, applied to label, and point out the proofing needed, such as a broken air brick.
Do Camden landlords of shared houses need to deal with pests?+
Camden started its third borough-wide additional licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation on 8 December 2025, so many shared houses here are licensed. Pests in the shared parts of a house are normally the landlord's to arrange. We can inspect every room in one visit, so bed bugs are not simply chased from one tenant's room to the next.
